Governance

In a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), the Trust is responsible for all of its schools/academies. For the Community Inclusive Trust, governance of our MAT resides with Members, Trustees and Local School Boards.

Members: The members are akin to the shareholders of a company. They have ultimate control over the academy Trust, with the ability to appoint some of the Trustees and the right to amend the Trust’s Articles of Association. CLICK HERE to view the CIT Articles.

Trustees: The trustees are responsible for the three core areas of governance.

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

CIT’s  Members and Trustees oversee the whole organisation and the MAT is the legal Governing Body for all CIT schools, but much of the work of the Trust Board is delegated to the Local School Board. CLICK HERE to view the CIT Scheme of Delegation.

Local School Boards and Local Governors: Isaac Newton Primary School have a committed team of Governors who are actively involved in the life of the school. They reflect the community they serve and include parent, community and staff representatives. Governors serve as a key link between the Trust Board, parents/carers and the local community. They monitor the performance of the school, advising the Trustees on what’s going well and of any concerns.

If you want to bring any matters to the attention of the Local School Board, you should email the Clerk: jingle.clerk@citacademies.co.uk or address your correspondence to the Chair of Governors at the school address.

The Governors are passionate about the school and are here to make sure that every young person is given the best education, opportunities and experiences possible. Our Governors play an important role in overseeing the work of the school, acting as “critical friends” for the Senior Leadership Team and holding the school to account for performance and development.

Please note that any complaints regarding the school must be raised in line with our complaints policy found HERE and cannot be raised with the Local School Board.

MEET THE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD
Mrs Pam Townsend

Chair of Governors

Pam was born in Perth, Scotland. She has lived in several different towns and cities both in England and Scotland before settling in Grantham which has been her home since 1983. Pam enjoys reading, sewing and and learning how to paint as well as taking the occasional walk. Pam's and her husband look after their young grandson one day a week and love it.
Pam qualified as a teacher in 1978 and worked in a variety of schools in Humberside, Yorkshire and finally here, in Grantham. Although, while training she chose to focus on primary education, spending her career working in middle and secondary schools.
Pam joined Walton Academy (formerly Walton Girls’ High School) in 1985 as a temporary teacher and retired in 2015 as Assistant Headteacher, responsible for pastoral care, behaviour and safety, primary liaison, marketing, trips and visits, displays and anything else she was asked to do. After retiring she continued to work at Walton as a supply teacher.
Pam has been a governor at Poplar Farm School since it opened in 2018. She was excited to be part of a brand new school and thoroughly enjoys being a governor which is why she was delighted when asked to consider the role of Chair at Isaac Newton. Pam feels that governors have a unique and privileged role to play in helping schools to be the very best they can be, by acting as critical friends and being on hand to provide support to staff, parents and children.
Isaac Newton School has always impressed Pam with their enthusiasm and caring attitude and feels this echoes her own beliefs about the absolute importance of pastoral care for each and every pupil as well as high expectations of all stakeholders to ensure the success of Isaac Newton.

Mr David Milner

Headteacher

David originally worked in sales for several years then made the decision to retrain as a Primary School Teacher through Nottingham Trent University.
Having taught for the past 18 years, David is fully committed to provide a high-quality education for all pupils that prepares them well for the next phase of their education. He always makes decisions with the children’s best interests in mind; his number one priority is for them to feel safe, happy and secure.

Mrs Annette Giles

Parent Governor

Annette is a mother of two boys, ages 15 and 9 years. Both children have attended Isaac Newton. During this time, Annette believes the school did so much for her children to help nurture and realise their potential. Annette has become a governor to ensure that every child in school has the same opportunities and positive experiences.
She is keen to become a voice for the parents/carers, as she believes strongly that communication is vital to being able to meet expectations from both the families and school, to ensure a bright, happy future for our children. Some may recognise her as a familiar face around the school. Annette volunteered for 2 years, initially listening to children read, then completing her teaching assistant qualification, was able to secure a position within school.

Mrs Emma Moorcroft

Staff Governor

Emma has been teaching for 12 years and feels lucky to have spent nine of those years at Isaac Newton. Emma has worked in many year groups throughout the school and believes that gives her a good understanding of the needs of the children within the setting. Her current roles in school are maths coordinator, educational visits coordinator and year 4 teacher. Emma has two children, one who currently attends the school.

Mrs Sarah Thomas

Parent & SEND Governor

Sarah is a mother of two boys (10 & 6 years old). She has worked in the Royal Air Force for just under 23-years as an Administrator, which involves a lot of varied work including Employee Relations, Payroll, Establishments, Instructing, Squadron Adjutant, Registry, and post-room.
Sarah now works in the civil service as a Programme Delivery Higher Executive for the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. She has recently passed both exams for Agile Project Management Foundation and Practitioner levels and while in the military undertook and passed a degree in Criminology and Psychological Studies.
Sarah has a keen interest in the education system and trying to keep herself learning as much as possible. She hopes to bring a varied number of skills to the role of Governor to help in whatever way possible ensuring all pupils who attend Isaac Newton Primary are given the best education available.

Mrs Kate Thomas

Community Governor

Kate has recently returned to the UK from living and working abroad. She feels fortunate to have lived in some amazing places with her family, including Africa, Middle East, Spain, Turkey and the US. The one constant as she was travelling was her desire to teach, and the experience she gained was unique and invaluable. This enabled Kate to see how a child’s culture, background and experiences all shape their identity and affect their learning. As a teacher she wanted to make a difference to each child in her care, to ensure that each reached
their potential and had the best experience they could have. Now, although retired from fulltime teaching, Kate wishes to continue this mission as a governor. She believes she can really help the school community to deliver the best opportunities to each child.

Miss Beth Archer

Community Governor

Mrs Pam Powell

Special Interest Trustee

Pam worked for over 40 years in a variety of primary schools before retiring from her post as a Headteacher in 2009. Having always had a particular interest in early years and special needs education, Pam became a Governor at a local SEMH school over twenty years ago. She then took on the role of Chair of Governors at two more special schools and also became an educational consultant and Chair of Governors at a primary school.
Pam was proud to be awarded a BEM for her services to education in the 2019 Queen’s birthday honours list. She hopes to make a positive contribution in her new role as a Trustee of the CIT Trust Board.
