At Isaac Newton Primary School, our History curriculum aims to foster curiosity about the past and develop understanding of the links between the past and the present, learning about the changes over time and the impact on our lives today. At our school, we hope to create an interest about past achievements, differences and similarities between people and cultures. We seek to widen their view of their own locality and the world and to have confidence to ask questions about why and how events occurred and who helped to make the changes. We hope to encourage our children to be inspired and develop a context for their own growing sense of identity. History can influence personal choices, attitudes and values by investigating and interpreting people’s actions from the past and learning from them. We want our children to understand that their present will be tomorrow’s history.
